Giclee (zhee-clay´) is a French term meaning the spraying or jetting of ink. Giclee reproductions were originally developed in 1989 as a plateless method of fine art printing. The prints have an extremely high resolution yielding a rich image faithful to the original painting. To create a giclee, the images are scanned and digitally stored in a computer. From the computer, images are sent to a high resolution inkjet printer. A stream of ink, finer than an airbrush technique, of more than four million droplets per second, is sprayed onto archival art paper or canvas. Exact calculations of hue, value, and density direct the spraying of the nontoxic water based ink. Each print is printed on 100% cotton rag acid free paper or canvas and has the artist’s input and approval for the final color adjustments for the edition. The process allows for superior saturation, dynamic color and richness of detail and depth often lost in earlier methods of reproduction. Giclees have a long lifespan but like all fine art, should be kept out of direct sunlight. Our Gicless on paper have at least a 1" white border around the image. We offer our canvas giclee unstretched or on artist’s stretchers. The offset lithograph is an art poster and is not archival.
